Merchant-Initiated Authorization Reversals
Like other payment authorization reversals,
a merchant-initiated reversal releases the hold placed on a customer’s payment card funds.
As a merchant, you might need to initiate a reversal
if a mistake occurred in the authorization request, such as charging the wrong amount,
if the item purchased is sold out, or
if the customer decides not to go through with the purchase.
Limitations
Unless your processor supports authorization reversal after void (ARAV),
merchant-initiated authorization reversals are supported
only for authorizations that have not been captured and settled.
